WhatsApp is one of the most widely used instant messaging platforms in the world, especially in India. And, to be honest, we often see that some of our contacts, friends,or people we know remove their profile pictures (DP) for different reasons -- sometimes because they are upset, annoyed with a girlfriend or boyfriend or due to other personal reasons. When you check, all you see is no display photo. Now, the Meta-owned app is reportedly planning to change that. WhatsApp is working on a feature that allows some users to replace blank profiles with photos from the address book in the phone."WhatsApp is introducing a feature that allows some users to display profile photos from their address book when a contact has not set one. This feature makes
it easier to identify contacts, as it replaces default placeholders with images already saved on the device," WABetaInfo reported."Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.12.10.71 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to replace blank profiles with photos from the address book," the report added. As per the screenshots shared in the report, some beta testers can explore this feature. The report claims that if a user has not set a profile picture, WhatsApp will soon use the saved image from the contact card. However, the feature only affects the view on the user's device and does not change the contact's actual profile photo. Additionally, only contacts that the user has allowed WhatsApp to access will have the profile photo updated. With this feature, users can quickly identify contacts without a profile photo by more than just their name. There are two cases where WhatsApp may show a saved contact photo.First - for your own profile. If you don’t have a profile picture, the Meta-owned platform can show the photo saved in your address book in settings. This is only visible to you and helps avoid a blank profile. Others will still see the default placeholder if no DP is set.Second - for other users. If someone cannot see your profile picture due to privacy settings like 'Nobody' or 'My contacts except,' the instant messaging app may show the photo they have saved for you in their address book -- only on their device."This will let them recognise you in their chats even when your privacy settings won't allow them to see your profile photo. So if your privacy settings prevent someone from seeing your profile photo, they will be able to see the photo they have manually saved for you in their address book," WABetaInfo said,This feature will be especially useful for contacts who prefer not to set a profile picture. As of now, the feature to replace blank profiles with photos from the address book is available to some beta testers who install the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS update from TestFlight. The official rollout is expected in the coming month but this not confirmed yet and we suggest our readers to wait for the official confirmation from Meta.
