The
famous Bollywood duo, Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, returned on set together after over a decade. Their reunion film, Bhooth Bangla, was successful at the box office. The horror-comedy based on the fictional story of Vadhusur, was loved and accepted by the audience across India. As the film is about to complete two months in theatres with some shows still running, it will soon stream on Netflix. While the makers of Bhooth Bangla haven’t announced its official release date, it is anticipated to arrive around mid-June.
Bhooth Bangla OTT release date revealed
As per reports,
Bhooth Bangla will be releasing on Netflix on June 12. Reportedly, the OTT rights of the horror comedy were sold to Netflix for Rs 60 crore. Mounted on a budget of Rs 120 crore, the film emerged as a commercial success.
Bhooth Bangla plot
Bhooth Bangla follows the story of an NRI, Arjun Acharya (Akshay), who returns to his ancestral roots after his sister Meera (Mithila Palkar) inherits their grandfather’s property in Mangalpur. He decides to get his sister married at the isolated mansion. However, their father, Dr Vasudev Acharya (Jisshu Sengupta) is unaware of this plan. When he learns about Arjun and Meera’s visit to Mangalpur, he warns them to drop the idea of making their ancestral property the venue for the wedding. It is revealed that a demon named Vadhusur abducts brides for human sacrifice. Before threat comes knocking at his door, Arjun decides to uncover the truth.

A source close to the film told
India Today that, given the love and response that
Bhooth Bangla has received from families, the makers are definitely looking into taking the franchise forward. "It’s an exciting space, and thus a sequel looks very much on the cards," a source close shared. While talks with Priyadarshan are in their early stages, producer Ekta Kapoor is keen on the horror-comedy space, and would love to revisit with more stories, the source added.
Bhooth Bangla ends with a cliffhanger. A day before its official release, the makers of
Bhooth Bangla organised paid previews. According to
Sacnilk,
Bhooth Bangla’s paid previews collection was Rs 3.50 crore. Due to limited screens and competition from
Dhurandhar 2, the early collection was decent. In the past,
Stree 2 earned Rs 9 crore through paid previews, whereas Dhurandhar 2 did a business of Rs 43 crore. Other films, such as
Chennai Express, earned around Rs 6 crore.
