In The Girlfriend trailer, Rashmika Mandanna plays a college student named Bhooma who gets into a relationship with her classmate (Dheekshish Shetty). Her boyfriend's eccentric acts, leaves her in a constant state of anxiety about their relationship, trying to control her move, while behaving differently himself. What adds to Bhooma’s worries is her boyfriend’s closeness with Durga (Anu Emmanuel) that is an obstacle for her relationship. How Bhooma struggles to get through the turbulent relationship and the mental state of her health forms the crux of the story. The Girlfriend promises to be a Telugu film that shares from a woman's perspective in a love story.The Girlfriend also stars Rao Ramesh as Bhooma’s father. Veteran actor Rohini, was last seen in Dude, plays a prominent role. The film sees writer-director Rahul Ravindran to filmmaking after 6 years. He last directed Manmadhudu 2. Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Kopineedi are producing the film under the banners of Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainment and Geetha Arts, while Allu Aravind is presenting the film. The music for the film is composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, who is known for his work in Hi Nanna soundtrack. Prashanth R Vihari is composing the background score.
