District Consumer Commissioner - II had filed a bailable warrant against Salman Khan in the pan masala ad case. However, the Rajasthan HC has stayed the court proceedings against Salman. The case dates back to the time Yogendra Singh Badiyal had filed a complaint, raising concerns over advertisements linked to a pan masala brand, which was endorsed by Khan. The complainant had mentioned that such claims, in ads, create a false impression of safety and quality, while consumption of pan masala is associated with health risks. Salman Khan gets relief in pan masala ad case
The Rajasthan HC has granted relief to Salman Khan in the pan masala ad case. According to Bar and Bench, Justice Anuroop Sangi passed the order on a petition filed by Salman, which challenged District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission's orders in Jaipur. The advertisements were restrained and a bailable warrant was issued against the Dabangg actor.
On April 7, the high court stayed court proceedings against the Bollywood superstar. This means that Salman will no longer have to appear before the Commission on April 13. The date was set as final opportunity. For the unversed, Yogendra Singh Badiyal has filed a complaint in 2025 against Salman and the pan masala brand.Senior advocate GS Bapna, on behalf of Khan, maintained that the actor only promoted silver-coated elaichi of the brand. The advocate also mentioned that the superstar never advertised or promoted pan masala.
More about the case
Earlier this year, the Consumer Commission had imposed an interim ban on promotion of these products. According to media reports, the advertisements continued to appear even after the interim ban was imposed. But after the matter escalated, Salman and the company challenged the proceedings in March this year.
The High Court also considered the fact that Salman had already approached the NCDRC and challenged a January 15 order which led to issuance of warrants. It also noted that on April 8, the NCDRC had stayed the execution of bailable warrants issued by the District Commission. Taking all of that in consideration, the HC stayed court proceedings against Salman. It also issued notice to Yogendra Sing Badiyal and sought his response.
