Malayalam actor Salim Kumar was cremated with state honours at his residence in North Paravur, Ernakulam, Keralam, in the presence of his family members, political leaders, celebrities and fans on Sunday (June 7). The actor passed away on June 6, 2026, at a private hospital in Kochi. He was 56 and is survived by his wife, Sunitha, and his two sons, Chandu and Aaromal. At the funeral, his elder son, Chandu, lost his cool at paps during the hour of grief. A video is currently going viral on social media, in which Chandu is seen lashing out at the crowding paparazzi.

In one of the videos, Chandu is seen getting emotional at the funeral of his father, Salim Kumar. He maintained his calm for a long time until a crowding of paps showed their overenthusiasm at the venue. He eventually lost his cool and demanded they step back and give the family space to pay their final respects. At the funeral, Salim Kumar’s family members also gathered to pay their final respects. The place grew crowded as many paparazzi started covering the moment of grief in an aggressive manner. Hence, Chandu got angry with them.

Salim Kumar’s funeral was attended by several celebrities from the
Malayalam film industry. Actors like Meera Jasmine, Sandeep Pradeep and others paid their final tribute to the National Award-winning actor. Keralam CM, VD Satheesan, also paid his last respects to the departed soul. While speaking to the media Satheeshan remembered Salim Kumar by stating that he was not just an actor but a close friend of his. “I have lost someone who was like a brother to me. Since I came to Paravur, I have shared a deep bond with him and his family,” the CM added.
In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mourned Salim Kumar’s demise. He took to his X handle and expressed his condolences to the late actor’s family.
About Salim Kumar
Salim Kumar worked in over 300 films for more than three decades. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for the film, Adaminte Makan Abu. He had been admitted to a private hospital for pneumonia’s treatment. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated, and doctors put him on ventilator support. He eventually passed away on Saturday. The doctors pronounced him dead at 10:43 pm. After learning about Salim Kumar’s death, several actors like Mammootty, Prithviraj Sukumaran and others mourned his demise on social media.
