What is the story about?
Dacoit:
A Love Story features Mrunal Thakur alongside actors Adivi Sesh and Anurag Thakur. The actress, who started out in TV, has come far since her first feature film role with Love Sonia in 2018. However, Mrunal states that her debut film was way ahead of its time and audiences were not ready for it. While she had gotten the chance to show her talent in films like Jersey, Sita Ramam, Pippa and Hi Nanna, Mrunal shared that she wants to go out and seek out non-formulaic films that allow her to play flawed characters.
Mrunal Thakur on her film debut
In her first film, Love Sonia, Mrunal played a devoted sibling who searches for her sister Preeti (Riya Sisodiya) who is sold into prostitution. Sonia sacrifices herself repeatedly to try and find her sister and bring her back home, no matter what the cost. Speaking with Zoom and discussing messy characters, Mrunal said of her Hindi debut, "My first film that I did, Love Sonia, I don't think the audience was ready to see [it]. It was made way ahead of its time. For me, I worship Smita Patil ji and the kind of films she's made. I think all the films she's made were way ahead of her time. I wish we had actors like her who had the courage to go out and out. In fact, it's also important to go out and find those kinds of roles. Everybody is writing these formula films."

Agreeing with her co-star, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, the actress went on to say, "Sometimes it's so important for me, I may not know a lot of people in the industry when it comes to writers or directors but I have literally find that who is... Flawed are the best. I want to do a flawed character. Why not?"However, she opined, "Not everybody is writing about the women out there. Maybe we need that one film to break those stereotypes. I remember when The Dirty Picture came, when Queen arrived, it did make a huge impact, but I feel like there need to be more stories like this, which would change the way Indian actresses are... when it comes to characters and films."
