Will Byers in the Upside Down in Stranger Things 5 Episode 1
The first five minutes of the first episode of Stranger Things, titled Chapter One: The Crawl, were released to special fans on Tudum. You don't have to wait until November 26 to find out; here's how Stranger Things Season 5 will open when it returns. The episode begins in the Upside Down with Will Byers, a de-aged Noah Schnapp, hiding out in his fort, Castle Byers. He is being hunted by a Demogorgon, and he manages to evade being captured by climbing up a tree.
However, the Demogorgon catches him after he has a fall trying to jump onto another tree. The Demogorgon drags the unconscious Will back to a dilapidated house where Vecna (Jaime Campbell Bower) emerges from the shadows. Capturing Will between the vines, he tells him, "At long last. We can begin." Through the vines, Vecna forges a connection to Will by attaching it to his mouth. It seems he passes some part of him into Will. He adds, "You and I, we are going to do such beautiful things together, William. Such beautiful things." Will's eyes are closed, and he seems transformed by the force being forcibly pumped through him. ALSO READ: Stranger Things Season 5: All Main Characters Killed So Far Ahead Of Series Premiere
Noah Schnapp on the opening of The Crawl
The Crawl's running time is one hour and eight minutes, and from what we've seen so far, it details Will's perspective in the Upside Down, which was missing so far. Schnapp, who has played the character since 2016, spoke about the experience of working with a young actor to bring together this important flashback scene. He told SFX Magazine, "I will say that I had to work with a younger kid, which was actually really cool and a full circle moment for me, because it felt like, 'Oh, wow, now I'm the adult telling this kid what to do, and I'm no longer that little boy being told where to stand. It just helped me reflect on all the years that passed, and he was a really sweet kid. And I got my little taste of directing, and worked with him for a few days on set to get his physicality and running and breath work the same as mine. Then they put me in a tent and had me do all these different expressions and faces, like fear, and running and all these things. It was so weird."
