However, amid the appreciation, netizens began criticising the use of the dialogue “Conditions Follow Pannungada,” which is delivered in a casual and humorous tone in the film. The backlash stems not from the line itself, but from its association with a recent real-life tragedy that deeply affected the public.

The phrase gained attention following the tragic incident in Karur, which resulted in the loss of 40 lives. The incident occurred during a rally hosted by actor-turned-politicianVijay, the founder and president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The tragedy unfolded in Velusamypuram on the Karur–Erode highway when a massive crowd came forward to catch a glimpse of Vijay’s convoy. The situation quickly spiralled out of control, leading to consequences. In the aftermath, visuals from hospitals in Karur showed grieving families. During this time, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for School Education, Anbil Mahesh, was seen addressing the situation and was overheard saying, “Padichu padichu sonna conditions follow pannunga da,” while urging people to adhere to safety instructions. Given the context, the line became closely tied to the tragedy.

As a result, several social media users felt that using the same phrase in a comedic setting within Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil was insensitive. Many accused the filmmakers of trivialising a line associated with loss and grief, even though it had become a trending phrase online.

After the backlash, Jiiva apologised to fans during the film's success meet. Clarifying his take on it, he said, "It was a trending term, so we used it. We thought it would be good, and we did get a good response. But we didn't want to hurt anyone.'

Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil also stars Thambi Ramaiah, Ilavarasu, Prathana Nathan, and Anuraj OB.
