Ebon Moss-Bachrach on The Bear Season 5 after Gary
Speaking with
Entertainment Weekly, Moss-Bachrach spoke about the last scene of
Gary in which Richie is seated alone in a car wash, remembering Mikey. As he exits the place, he is hit by another vehicle, leaving his fate up in the air. However, the actor, who also co-wrote the episode, had some important details to add. He shared that the episode was "a memory piece" that took place inside Richie's head that morning on his way to work. The character was lost in the past and now he's back into reality. Moss-Bachrach added, "It just doesn't give you time to spend too long ruminating."
The actor also hinted that the standalone prequel episode, directed by
The Bear creator Christopher Storer, could possibly take place between seasons 4 and 5. Moss-Bachrach revealed that he and Bernthal had wanted to explore Mikey's and Richie's past before the former's suicide. His death is the reason younger brother Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) returns to Chicago to take over his restaurant. In the interview, Moss-Bachrach said that he wanted to find Richie's joy after seeing him mourn so much for his friend. He stated, "I wanted to see what it is that this man's grieving, what it is that he's mourning, what was the nature of this relationship."
