Could
Rachel Green, Phoebe Buffay and Monica Geller be heading back to television in a brand-new sitcom? While there is no official project in development yet, a recent conversation between Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow has certainly sparked excitement among Friends fans. The longtime friends and former co-stars talked fondly about their iconic sitcom, shared memories from the set and even playfully discussed the possibility of working together again. What caught fans' attention was a brief exchange that appeared to hint at a potential reunion featuring the most loved female trio from Friends.
Friends reunion on the way?
The conversation began during
Variety's Actors on Actors series, when
Lisa Kudrow showed her desire to collaborate on another television project. "I would love to do another one, if anyone wrote a good one. Let's do it. You heard it here!" Kudrow said. Jennifer Aniston immediately joined the conversation and asked, "Oh, wow. What's it going to be?"Kudrow then floated an idea that every single Friends fan has wanted for years! "Can we do you, me and Courteney? What would that be?" she asked, referring to Courteney Cox, who famously played Monica Geller on the hit sitcom. Without missing a beat, Aniston responded, "Girlfriends. Let's pitch it. Let's workshop it in front of all of these wonderful people."
While the exchange was very light-hearted, it would actually be iconic to get the trio back on our screens. For many fans, the idea is especially appealing because the trio shared some of Friends' most memorable storylines. Rachel, Monica and Phoebe shared a friendship that many could relate to when it came to gal pals. Monica was the organised and fiercely competitive heart of the group, Rachel evolved from a spoiled runaway bride into an independent fashion executive, while Phoebe's quirky personality and unconventional outlook made her one of television's most beloved characters. Together, they formed the emotional core of
Friends.
Why Lisa Kudrow never watched Friends
The discussion also gave viewers a glimpse into Kudrow's surprisingly complicated relationship with watching
Friends. Aniston admitted she had always found it surprising that Kudrow rarely watched the sitcom after filming. Kudrow explained that while the cast initially watched episodes together during the show's early years, she eventually stopped. "It was really fun. And then we got busy." She then admitted a shocking fact, "There were whole episodes that I hadn't seen. I just couldn't sit there at home and have anybody walk by seeing me watching a show that I'm in. Because it felt embarrassing to me."
Aniston jokingly teased her friend about not wanting to watch herself being "brilliant and funny." Kudrow laughed and admitted she often questioned some of Phoebe's most memorable line deliveries. Aniston quickly defended the performance, reminding her that it was funny and one of the reasons audiences loved Phoebe so much.Interestingly, Kudrow revealed that she has now watched the series in its entirety and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. "Loved it with all my heart," she said, adding that she often found herself watching for hours at a time, way past her bedtime even!
