The
Lincoln Lawyer, created by David E Kelley, is the second adaptation of Michael Connelly’s novels. The first adaptation was released in 2011, and the film starred Matthew McConaughey as the charismatic lawyer Mickey Haller. Now, of course, Jurassic World Rebirth’s Manuel Garcia-Rulfo has taken over the character and made it his own. Fans love the charming yet wily attorney whose track record in the courtroom is surprisingly good. So after defending himself on a murder charge, what does the Los Angeles defence attorney get up to next in Season 5? And who is the mysterious new character that saves Mickey’s life in the finale?
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5 story and book adaptation
Just before the Season 4 premiere, Netflix announced that the legal drama was renewed for a fifth season. This meant that fans could watch the series in peace without worrying if the show was going to come back or not. The fourth season adapted Connelly’s sixth novel, The Law of Innocence, in which Mickey Haller is accused of murdering his former client Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton). Mickey manages to clear his name, but there is a threat from those who tried to frame him for murder.
Season 5 will adapt the seventh book titled Resurrection Walk, which was published in 2023. Mickey fights for a woman who was convicted of killing her ex-husband, a sheriff’s deputy, but still maintains her innocence. The victim’s co-workers do not want the case reopened, so the attorney faces quite a struggle in trying to fight it.
Which character will not be featured in the series?
The Lincoln Lawyer is a spinoff story of Connelly’s Harry Bosch book series on Haller’s half-brother, a retired LAPD Detective. The character is a key part of the book Resurrection Walk, but don’t expect to see Bosch make an appearance in the Netflix series. The character already has his own series for Amazon Prime Video from 2014 to 2021.
Titled Bosch, it featured Titus Welliver as Bosch. A spinoff series, Bosch: Legacy, ran from 2022 to 2025, while another spinoff, Ballard, starring Maggie Q, premiered in 2025. With rival streaming platforms, the meeting of the half-brothers seems nearly impossible.
Returning cast members for The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5
Besides Garcia-Rulfo, The Lincoln Lawyer returning cast members will include Neve Campbell, who plays Mickey’s second ex-wife Maggie McPherson, Becki Newton, who plays his first ex-wife Lorna Chase, Jazz Raycole as Izzy’s the firm’s legal assistant, Angus Sampson as the firm’s investigator Cisco and Lorna’s new husband. Gigi Zumbado as Grace, Izzy's girlfriend, might also be sticking around.
Mickey and Maggie's daughter Hayley Haller (Krista Warner) is also expected to return, even thoug she is away at college. Unfortunately, Elliott Gould’s character, Legal, also known as David Siegel, died after a heart attack. Mickey’s mentor and father figure will be sorely missed, though there is a chance the character could return in a flashback or two. It is confirmed that
How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders will be joining the series for Season 5. Viewers were shocked when, in the
closing minutes of Season 4, her character Allison saved Mickey’s life after someone tried to shoot at him. She pushed him out of harm’s way. When he went to talk to her afterwards, she introduced herself as his sister! That’s a whole new mystery for Mickey to unpack in Season 5.
