award-winning actor Biju Menon faces allegations of failing to participate in promotional activities for his 2024 film Nadanna Sambhavam. The Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) has asked him to compensate the producers Rs 15 lakh to cover a portion of the reported Rs 25 lakh loss. Producer Anoop Kannan claimed that Biju Menon’s absence from promotional events breached the contractual agreement, which required the lead actors to devote ten days to marketing. The issue has drawn public attention after FEFKA General Secretary B Unnikrishnan, spoke about it in a press conference.
Why Is Biju Menon Asked To Pay Rs 15 Lakh To Nadanna Sambhavam Producers After Allegations? Issue Explained
The dispute arose after producer Anoop Kannan alleged that Biju Menon failed to participate in promotional activities for the film Nadanna Sambhavam. The producer claimed that the actor’s absence caused a financial loss of Rs 25 lakh, which affected the revenue from satellite and digital rights. According to Anoop Kannan, Biju Menon first agreed to participate but eventually appeared for only two-and-a-half hours on a single day, instead of the ten days outlined in the contractual agreement.
In response to the complaint, the Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) asked Biju Menon to pay Rs 15 lakh in compensation to cover part of the reported losses. The association suggested that the amount could be deducted from Biju Menon’s remuneration for his ongoing project with producer Listin Stephen, who is also the association’s secretary. KFPA President B Rakesh confirmed that the decision has been formally conveyed to the actor.
Biju Menon Vs FEFKA Criticism
The controversy gained further attention after FEFKA General Secretary B Unnikrishnan publicly slammed Biju Menon, stating that producers should not bear financial losses due to actors skipping promotions which is part of their duty. Unnikrishnan mentioned that similar concerns had arisen regarding Biju Menon’s participation in promotions for another film directed by Jeethu Joseph. Anoop Kannan said that promotional duties were not just obligations but critical to revenue generation, especially from television and digital rights. Biju Menon has not issued a public response to the allegations yet.
Nadanna Sambhavam is a comedy-drama directed by Vishnu Narayan and written by Rajesh Gopinadhan. The film features Biju Menon, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Shruti Ramachandran, and Lijomol Jose in leading roles. Upon release, it received mixed reviews from critics.
