Ryan Reynolds, Mae Schenk to star in live-action film adaptation of Eloise
On X (former Twitter), Netflix announced, "ELOISE is coming to Netflix! Amy Sherman-Palladino will write and direct a new feature adaptation of the beloved children's book series starring newcomer Mae Schenk and Ryan Reynolds." The new film will be an original story, likely set in the Plaza Hotel.
Hannah Minghella, head of feature animation and family film at Netflix, shared in a statement, "Eloise has been beloved for generations, from when she was first published in the 1950s through to today, when no family trip to New York City is complete without a stop at The Plaza. Emmy-winning director Sherman-Palladino has co-written the film with Hannah Marks and Linda Woolverton. Actor Reynolds is producing the adaptation with George Dewey, Ashley Fox, and Johnny Pariseau for Maximum Effort, with Woolverton also producing.

Speaking about the casting for Eloise, Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau, co-presidents of production at Maximum Effort, said in a report by The Hollywood Reporter, “When Amy introduced us to Mae Schenk, we knew instantly she was Eloise. She’s got the spark, the wit, and just the right amount of mischief. We’re so excited to introduce her to the world with our friends at MRC and Netflix.”The book series revolves around a little girl named Eloise who lives on the top floor of the Plaza Hotel in New York City with her nanny, her pug dog Weenies, and her turtle named Skipperdee. In 2003, two TV films were released with Sofia Vassilieva as Eloise and Julie Andrews as the nanny. The films were titled Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime.
