What is the story about?
Gulshan
Devaiah have proved his versatility with each and every role. The Kantara: Chapter 1 and Guns & Gulaabs actor believes that friendships in the film industry do not guarantee work opportunities. Despite missing out on some notable projects, he has remained unfazed, choosing instead to embrace these experiences as part of his creative journey.
The Beginning of a Creative Bond with Vasan Bala
Though Peddlers is yet to see the light of day, the film gifted Gulshan one of his dearest friends, filmmaker Vasan Bala. The duo collaborated on several projects, including Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and Monica O My Darling, where Gulshan lent his voice. However, audiences noticed his absence in Jigra. Speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, Gulshan revealed that he was initially offered a role in Jigra, but a scheduling conflict prevented him from participating.“Vasan did his first film Peddlers with me and then we did Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. My voice is in Monica O My Darling. He wanted me to do something in Jigra too but I wasn’t available. It was either a voice role or a character that passes in the background,” Gulshan shared.Even if he hadn’t been approached for a cameo in Jigra, Gulshan says he would’ve been perfectly fine with it, as he doesn’t expect his friends to offer him roles in their projects.“Vasan is a very good friend of mine. I can call him if I know that he’s working on a script and tell him that I want to be a part of it but I don’t. I choose not to do such a thing. Sometimes, they offer you a part voluntarily and sometimes, they don’t,” he explained.Missing Out on Projects with Anurag Kashyap
Gulshan also recalled a similar experience with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who launched him in That Girl in Yellow Boots. Anurag had offered him two significant projects, but circumstances prevented Gulshan from being a part of them.“After That Girl In Yellow Boots, Anurag called me to work with him a couple of times. I was supposed to do a part in Sacred Games but in the episodes that Vikram (Vikramaditya Motwane) was directing. I was also offered a part in Yudh but I didn’t like it,” he revealed.ALSO READ: Amitabh Bachchan Praises Indian Women Cricket Team After Historic World Cup Win: So Much Pride You've...Choosing Roles with Integrity
Citing another example, Gulshan mentioned filmmaker Harshvardhan Kulkarni, with whom he shares a long professional association.“Harshvardhan Kulkarni made Hunterrr where I was his leading man. In Badhaai Do, I was romancing his leading man. But I’ve never asked these filmmakers for a role. If a role comes to me, it does. I guess it’s alright,” he said.Gulshan concluded by emphasising the importance of working with new collaborators, as it brings creative growth and fresh perspectives.“Sometimes, it’s important to work with new people because they push you into a different direction. It could be the same for them also. They should be able to get the actors they want for a part. And sometimes, maybe I’m not the right person for it,” he stated.Do you find this article useful?
