The
Devil Wears Prada 2 is on cruise control at the international box office. Earlier this week, it surpassed the entire worldwide earnings of the 2006 film, also directed by David Frankel, in just nine days. Now, the film has made more than $433 million worldwide and looks to finish at around $650 to $750 million in its lifetime. The stars of the first film Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, all returned to reprise their iconic roles of Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Emily Charlston and Nigel Kipling.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 moves past $400 million
According to a report in
Variety, in just two weekends,
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has earned more than $433 million globally. Produced by Disney, the sequel added $75 million and $43 million in the US to its overall haul. In North America,
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has already earned $144 million and counting. What has surprised box office pundits is its popularity globally, as it has earned an impressive $288 million from 51 territories.
The international breakdown includes $28 million from the UK; $28 million from Italy, where part of the film was shot; $22 million from Brazil; and $20 million from Mexico. The 2006 film, which was also written by Aline Brosh McKenna, had made $326 million at the end of its run. Experts predict that the sequel will end up with $650 to $750 million as it exits theatres later this year. The film's studio, Disney, has become the first Hollywood studio in 2026 to cross $2 billion in global ticket sales.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast salaries
The three main actresses of the sequel are going to see a significant bonus with the film's better-than-expected box office. Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt took home $12.5 million each because of a “favoured nations” deal. However, that number could go up to $20 million after bonuses after the film finishes its run. Streep reportedly made it a point during the negotiating stage that she and her co-stars Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway would have equal salaries.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 cost $100m to produce, which is said to have gone in cast salaries. The cast and crew took two decades to come back together for a sequel because they wanted to have the right story. Director Frankel and writer Brosh McKenna were not sure if Oscar winner Streep would come back, as the veteran actress has only said yes to a handful of sequels.
