Not only because of his acting and work ethic, but also because of how he quietly became a father-figure to the late Paul Walker's daughter. After the death of the legendary actor, Vin took on his responsibilities like a true friend who stands by his people at all times. The internet once again united in solidarity when he teared up remembering his late best friend at the Cannes Film Festival. The moment became heartwarming, as Paul's daughters attended the event along with their uncle Vin.
Vin Diesel Tears Up at Cannes
Cannes 2026 is missing a high-profile presence, which remains unusual. Among the few stars who walked the red carpet was Vin.
The Fast and Furious actor celebrated the franchise's 25th anniversary. During the screening, he also remembered Paul, his co- star and best friend.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Grand Lumiere theatre was filled with celebrity audience and cinema enthusiasts from around the world. Diesel, in an emotional reflection, spoke about Paul. “This is a film where brotherhood was introduced to our millennium, " he said, remembering Pablo (Paul Walker), who died at 40 in 2013. Diesel credited the late actor's daughter,
Meadow Walker, who joined him to celebrate the moment. The theatre grew emotional as Vin hugged Paul's daughter.
Fast and Furious Screening
The screening started around midnight, and Vin wore a custom jacket with ‘Fast Forever’ written on it. The next in the franchise is
Fast Forever, set to release in March 2028 by Universal. Alongside Vin Diesel, stars from the upcoming film, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez, were also present. Universal chairman Donna Langley and producer Neal H. Moritz attended the gala with Meadow Walker. The publication noted the actor's special moment reflecting on his past at the festival. Three decades ago, Vin Diesel screened his short film. “I've never seen a midnight screening like this in my whole life. It's not like this movie hasn't been out for a minute,” Diesel chuckled before the screening.
He also thanked the fans for their continued love and support of the film. Credit to his fans, he added that they are keeping this finale for 2028 because of their loyalty, which makes them proud, Vin concluded.
