Park Eun-Bin is set to return as the lovable rookie lawyer Woo Young-Woo in Extraordinary Attorney Woo Season 2. While the announcement has left fans extremely happy, many are also taking a sigh of relief
at things getting into motion with the hit Netflix K-drama's production. The show debuted in 2022 and quickly emerged as a major success. Also starring Kang Tae-Oh, along with Kang Ki-Young, Ha Yoon-Kyung, Joo Jong-Hyuk, Jeon Bae-Soo and others, the series follows a genius attorney on the Autism spectrum as she navigates the legal cases, life, and love. While the happy news of its sequel has been received with a lot of expectations, it took Extraordinary Attorney Woo almost three years to return with another season.
Why did Extraordinary Attorney Woo Season 2 get delayed?
Extraordinary Attorney Woo Season 2 was never cancelled by Netflix. Infact, a plan was always in place to come back with a new installment. However, it got delayed, and the reasons were many. Firstly, things behind the scenes took longer than both fans and producers initially expected.
Original plan for 2024
After the final episode of
Extraordinary Attorney Woo achieved a massive viewership rating of 17.5 percent, the highest for a K-drama on the network ENA in 2022, the show's production company confirmed a second season. Lee Sang-Baek, CEO of AStory confirmed the sequel and targeted a 2024 release."Thanks to the support of many people, we will be producing season 2 of Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Our hopeful golden time will be in 2024. Our goal is to have season 2 broadcast at that time," Lee Sang-Baek said in 2022.ENA even reportedly started preparations for the sequel in 2023, including signing a contract with Season 1 writer Moon Ji-Won. However, coordinating that plan turned out to be more complicated than anticipated. The production was halted at the "developmental stage" due to multiple problems.
Script and creative development
One of the biggest delays came from script development. Although the original writer Moon Ji-Won signed on, she was tied up with other projects, which slowed down the writing process and kept the project in early development for longer than expected.
Cast scheduling issues
The cast availability, mainly actor Kang Tae-Oh, who plays the male lead and Park Eun-Bin's onscreen love interest. Kang enlisted for military service and had to take a work hiatus. Given the producers not wanting to change the cast and keep as many of the original actors as possible, Kang's unavailability to immediately return for filming caused a delay.Though the makers are yet to announce the sequel or its release date officially, Korean media is flooded with confirmation that
Extraordinary Attorney Woo Season 2 is back on track, and the production is now moving ahead.
