Thalapathy
Vijay’s upcoming film, Jana Nayagan, is yet to get a censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The makers have already filed a petition at Madras High Court for the same, as the film is scheduled to be released on January 9, 2026, in theatres. Amidst the battle with CBFC, Jana Nayagan has finally gotten a certificate from the censor board but not from the Indian one. The United Kingdom’s censor board has granted a censor certificate to the Vijay starrer ahead of its grand release. It has to be noted that the UK censor board has given Jana Nayagan a 15-rated certificate.
Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Gets Clearance From UK Censor Board
According to the British Board Of Film Classification (BBFC), Jana Nayagan gets a ‘15’ certificate. According to the UK censor board, Thalapathy Vijay’s next is suitable only for individuals aged 15 and over. No one younger is allowed to see it in a cinema or rent/buy it. The BBFC rated the film ‘15’ because it contains strong language, frequent violence, sexual activity and drug misuse. After the certification, the Jana Nayagan makers got a clearance to release the film in the UK market.
Talking about the makers’ battle with CBFC over the delay in the issuance of the censor certificate, the Madras High Court adjourned the hearing to January 7. During the hearing, the Jana Nayagan producers argued that the delay was unnecessary and could affect the film’s commercial prospects. However, the CBFC representative, Additional Solicitor General Sundaresan, questioned the makers over the urgency of certification. They stated that the makers announced Jana Nayagan’s release date before the completion of the certification process. In response, the high court directed the CBFC to file relevant documents related to the re-examination committee and adjourned the matter to the next day at 2:15 pm. It has to be noted that the makers of Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi are also waiting for the clearance from CBFC. The film is scheduled to be released on January 10. Coming back to Jana Nayagan, the Thalapathy Vijay starrer also features Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde and others in key roles.
