After
delivering the biggest two movies of Indian cinema, Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Aditya Dhar plans to take a break. But in all probability, this break is not only for relaxing but to decide on his next project. If reports are to be believed, the filmmaker is trying to decide between three very different genres. Dhurandhar franchise starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, along with actors Arun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Gaurav Gera, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor, and others, has emerged as a blockbuster, with Dhurandhar 2 alone crossing a record-smashing Rs 1,500 crore at the worldwide box office.
Aditya Dhar to take a well-deserved break
It's worth taking note of how his ambitious project, The Immortal Ashwatthama, had to be put on a back burner because of budgetary and VFX issues. But now, tables have turned, Aditya is spoilt for choices after proving his craft and changing the course of spy films in India. As per reports, the 43-year-old director is currently considering three potential films for his next big venture. These include either reviving his passion project, The Immortal Ashwatthama, or a historical epic on the reign of Chandragupta Maurya. The third option is a sports drama. And to take the call and revive his energies, he is reportedly going on a break.
The Immortal Ashwatthama, Chandragupta Maurya film or sports drama?
Aditya reportedly took almost three years to make his two-part Dhurandhar franchise with Ranveer Singh. According to Variety India, the director's next movie will be "much bigger in scale and ambition." While Aditya wishes to reunite with Ranveer Singh for a historical drama based on the life of the founder of the Maurya Empire, he is yet to take the final call. With Dhurandhar setting an example of a successful collab, Aditya and Ranveer coming on board together won't be surprising. Infact, Aditya has been in discussion with the actor since last year, the report claimed.
Why was The Immortal Ashwatthama shelved?
In October 2020, The Immortal Ashwatthama was announced, which was supposed to reunite Aditya with his Uri actor Vicky Kaushal. But the film fell through. Billed as a superhero action film, it was to go on floors later in 2020. The makers had even launched two intriguing posters featuring Vicky. But the movie kept getting delayed for several months, until August 2021, when it was officially revealed that the film had been shelved due to budget constraints.Given Dhurandhar's mammoth success, Aditya's first plan is to take a break and then announce his next. Fans are waiting!
