During a recent event in Kerala, Malayalam movie superstar Mammootty introduced his friend who gave him his popular stage name. During the gathering Mammootty reflected on his college memories before sharing
details about the origin of his name.
Mammootty Introduces Friend Who Gave Him Stage Name
At the event organised by Manorama, he recalled a story from his college days. The actor had told everyone in college that his name was Omar Sharif, a famous Egyptian actor. One day, he dropped his ID card, which was when his name was revealed. Mammootty recounted, "One of my friends immediately asked me. 'You are not Sharif, your name is Mammootty.'"
Continuing, Mammootty pointed out into the audience and introduced the person who had named him. With a sense of excitement, he declared, "The friend who named me Mammootty is right here. His name is Sasidharan."The audience then began cheering for him with 'Sasi chetan ki jai,' acknowledging the contribution. Mammootty addressed ongoing reports around his name, by saying, "Many people have claimed credit for my name, even written about that in papers. But it was this man," he said. Mammootty revealed that he Sashidharan's identity private until now, saying, "I have guarded him like a secret, held him back all these years like a surprise." The session ended with Mammootty's acknowledgement of friendship and gratitude.Meanwhile, Mammootty will soon be seen in Kalamkaval a neo-noir crime thriller film directed by debutant Jithin K. Jose, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jishnu Sreekumar. The film hits screens on 5 December.
