Malayalam cinema legend Mohanlal’s mother, Shanthakumari, passed away today, December 30, at the age of 90 following prolonged illness. She breathed her last at her residence in Elamakkara, Kochi, with
doctors at Amrita Hospital confirming her demise, where she had been undergoing treatment. Several members of the film fraternity expressed their condolences, offering prayers and heartfelt messages to the family. Actors Kamal Haasan and Chiranjeevi Konidela paid tribute, wishing her soul eternal peace.
Industry reacts to Mohanlal's mother's death today
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle,
Kamal Haasan wrote, "Brother @MohanLal only you can console your self . Friends will stand by you as always . No amount of comforting can compensate a loss like this . Take care we all love you. Kamal Haasan."
Chiranjeevi expressed, "My dear friend @Mohanlal, My heart goes out to you on the loss of your beloved Amma. A native of Elanthoor village in Pathanamthitta district, Mohanlal's mother relocated to Thiruvananthapuram with her family after her husband Viswanathan Nair’s got a job. He was a former bureaucrat who served as law secretary with the Kerala government. Santhakumari lived in their family home in Thiruvananthapuram until Mohanlal moved her into their Ernakulamhome after she reportedly suffered a stroke. Mohanlal was in Kochi when Santhakumari passed away and rushed to her house soon after learning about the tragic news.
