Jony Ive left Apple to collaborate with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to make AI hardware, and they were keeping all the details hidden about the device until now. However, it looks like the two have finalised
the design of the device. In an interview with Laurene Powell Jobs at Emerson Collective's Demo Day 2025, they said that the device is currently in the prototyping stage. When asked about the timeline, they stated that the device could make a debut in less than two years. Until now, not a lot has been revealed about the device by OpenAI and its development. However, rumours have it that the same will be screen-free and will be around the size of a smartphone. Sam Altman described it as 'simple and beautiful and playful.' He further said, 'There was an earlier prototype that we were quite excited about, but I did not have any feeling of, ‘I want to pick up that thing and take a bite out of it,’ and then finally we got there all of a sudden.'Also Read: Five Wrongful Death Lawsuits Against ChatGPT; AI Model Dubbed Dangerously Sycophantic Due To These ReasonsOn the other hand, Jony Ive said, 'I love solutions that teeter on appearing almost naive in their simplicity, and I also love incredibly intelligent, sophisticated products that you want to touch, and you feel no intimidation, and you want to use almost carelessly, that you use them almost without thought, that they’re just tools.'So, all the details related to the device, like the pricing, what it will be capable of, sensors, and more, are still under wraps. It is also not clear if the gadget will be a wearable or just something like a compact powerbank. But, one thing is sure that the device will mark the beginning of a new era in the AI age. Some leaks also suggest that it will have environmental awareness with microphones and a camera in place.
