Shetty has opened up about why he seldom takes up roles in South films. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that filmmakers from the South often approach Bollywood stars primarily for negative roles, an offer he prefers to decline.

Speaking about his choices at a public session, Lallantop Adda 2025, held recently in Delhi. Suniel said, "I do get offers (from the South), but unfortunately, what happens is, you will notice this trend that we get offers for negative roles. They want to cast the Hindi heroes as powerful from an antagonistic point of view, (they say) that’s good for the screen and for the audience. And that is one thing that I don’t like."

Why He Agreed to Do ‘Darbar’ and ‘Jai’

Suniel also explained why he chose two particular South projects, Darbar and Jai.He shared, “I did a film with Rajini sir, only because I wanted to tick that box of having worked with him. Recently, I did a small Tulu film just to encourage the film, which is doing really well, it’s called Jai… Today, there is no language barrier. If there is a barrier, then it’s perhaps because of the content. Suniel Shetty's Upcoming Projects

Suniel was last seen in the action series Hunter 2, co-starring Jackie Shroff. His upcoming projects include Welcome To The Jungle, featuring a star-studded ensemble with Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, and more. He also has Hera Phera 3 in the pipeline, with filming expected to begin in February or March next year.
