Nepali actor Sunil Thapa passed away in Kathmandu after a suspected heart attack. A well-known figure in Nepali cinema, he worked in more than 300 films and was admired for his strong screen presence. Thapa also appeared in Hindi projects, including Mary Kom starring Priyanka Chopra and Raj and DK’s web series The Family Man Season 3, where he shared screen space with Manoj Bajpayee. According to The Kathmandu Post, Sunil Thapa passed away on Friday February 6, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, Kathmandu. He was reportedly admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state after a sudden decline in his health. Doctors conducted an ECG at 7:44 am, which confirmed his death. While cardiac arrest is suspected to be the cause, an official medical bulletin is still awaited. A hospital official stated that he was unconscious upon arrival and medical efforts were made immediately.
Sunil Thapa's career and journey in Bollywood
Before entering films, Sunil Thapa began his career as a model in Mumbai in the mid-1970s. The actor made his debut in Hindi films with the 1981 released film Ek Duuje Ke Liye, featuring Kamal Hassan and Rati Agnihotri in the lead roles. Over the years, he went on to act in several Hindi films, including
Aaj Ki Awaaz, Manav Hatya, and
Albela. One of his most recognised roles was that of boxing coach Narjit Singh in the 2014 biographical film Mary Kom, featuring Priyanka Chopra as the lead.
The actor has appeared in over 300 Nepali films in his career span. Known for playing the role of antagonist, one of his most popular roles was Rate Kaila in the 1991 cult classic
