OpenAI’s Next AI Model ‘Spud’ Could Be A Major Leap Toward AGI, Says Greg Brockman

Tech giant OpenAI is reportedly gearing up to bring its next AI model, codenamed Spud. After a heavy competition from Anthropic in the agentic AI and enterprise market, the tech firm could focus more on its native products. It appears that Spud could be a major leap in the artificial intelligence race, as OpenAI President Greg Brockman teased the Sam Altman-led company’s upcoming AI model in a recent podcast.In a recent episode of the Big Technology podcast, Brockman suggested that Spud could be a significant change the company has been planning for a while in the AI race. Brockman suggests that Spud is going to be more efficient at understanding contexts for tasks without requiring the user to give repetitive instructions and prompts. He noted, “When you ask a question and the AI does not quite get it, it is always so disappointing, and you have to explain, and you are just like, ‘you really should be able to figure this out.’OpenAI's Vision For Upcoming AIThe OpenAI executive implied that users will be able to use the upcoming AI model for various tasks without thinking much. Several media reports highlight that Spud is under a pre-training phase, and it is likely to debut next year. To recall, the company is focusing more on improving its core products. OpenAI has recently shut down its video-generation platform, Sora. Grogman also suggests that OpenAI has chosen to shut down Sora to focus more on improving the artificial intelligence, where AI can think like humans.
