Maharani 4: Shardul Bhardwaj Praises Huma Qureshi For 'Collaborative, Welcoming' Atmosphere - Exclusive

The newest season of Maharani on SonyLIV returns with a big time jump that shows the grown children of Huma Qureshi's Rani Bharti. Joining the show for Maharani 4 is Eeb Allay Ooo! actor Shardul Bhardwaj

as middle child Jai Bharti. He shared his excitement at being part of the series after having enjoyed it as a viewer. Shardul also revealed what it was like to work on the set of the long-running SonyLIV series with a team who are a fun bunch but take what they do seriously.

Besides Shardul, Shweta Basu Prasad, Vipin Sharma, and Darsheel Safary also came aboard the fourth season. Shweta, Shardul, and Darsheel play the Bharti siblings, who face new political and personal challenges. Talking about being a newcomer on the show, Shardul told Zoom, "I think all the major players in Maharani, whether it's the cast or the crew, have developed a very nice bond and a working relationship with each other. So it was almost like me and Shweta were being sort of welcomed into the family, which is always a great and warm feeling. And people who play characters who are not that fond of our family, at least off-screen, are people who one looks up to for both guidance and time. So, they were available for us. They never made me feel like I was joining a new show."

The actor went on to praise Huma, who plays his on-screen mother, "See the great thing about actors like Huma is they don't boss you around. They respect you as an artist. They respect your understanding and your intelligence as an artist. This is what I feel that they trust in your preparation. And then they bring what they bring to the table, you bring what you bring to the table, and then there is the collaboration that happens. Shardul Bhardwaj on his impulsive character Jai Bharti

The show depicts the Bharti clan joining politics as adults after watching their parents as children. Speaking about his character Jai Bharti, Shardul stated, "What I like about the role is that he's acting upon his instincts, but his instincts in his world are very well founded. They mean well. Jai has a way of working, but it's to an end, which is for the good of the family, and at the same time, he's trying to find his place in this world, which is very relatable. He's a very well-rounded character, with his own set of contradictions, which I never looked at as contradictions, because I don't think you can judge a character and then play it also. He is what he is."

After Maharani 4, the actor is looking forward to his next film, directed by Suresh Triveni. "There is a Netflix film that I just completed. Suresh Triveni is the director who made films like Tumhari Sulu and Jalsa. The film's got Madhuri [Dixit] ji, Tripti [Dimri], Paresh [Rawal] sir, and many other very fine artists. So, that should come out next year sometime," he concluded.All episodes of Maharani 4, created by Subhash Kapoor, are now streaming on SonyLIV. Puneet Prakash takes over as director this season.
