Singh announced his retirement from playback singing on January 27. But the musical genius took to the stage at Kolkata to treat fans to a pleasant musical surprise when he joined sitar maestro Anoushka Shankar on February 8 in a concert at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolakata. This was Arijit's first time performing after announcing his exit from Bollywood playback singing.

Anoushka Shankar Shares Arijit's Performance

Anoushka Shankar took to Instagram to share a clip from the event and wrote, "So much more to say later, but for now, my heart!!!! Hearing the one and only @arijitsingh bringing my father’s rarely heard Bengali song to life and then sharing our new music with Kolkata, was truly one for the books." She followed it with a folded hands emoji.

Arijit teamed up with Anoushka Shankar and maverick percussionist Bickram Ghosh to perform Maya Bhoara Raati, a composition by the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar.A number of people reacted to the post, with one writing, "Arijit Singh is Like, "Enough For Bollywood, Now Only For Roots". Bickram Ghosh lauds Arijit Singh

Bickram Ghosh too took to Facebook to write about the event mentioning that he "played on Guruji Pt. Ravi Shankar's composition Fire Night," and that " Arijit Singh was another guest who enthralled with his rendition of Guruji's song Maya bhora raati," where he played alongside the singer as well.

The iconic percussionist also added, " The respect Arijit shows his seniors is exemplary. He has immense grace and humility. He always did . Every step of his is all heart!"Arijit also performed a duet with Anoushka on Traces of You, that the sitarist co-created with international star and her half-sister Norah Jones.
