Which city does Emily end up choosing?
While Emily had a wonderful time in Italy, her romance with Italian boyfriend Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini) fizzled out. They break up midway through the fifth season after her campaign for the House of Muratori brings too much attention to the village of Solitano. Emily moves back to Paris, as does the Italian branch of Agence Grateau after they lose their clients.
However, Marcello and Emily rekindle their romance back in Paris as the Italian fashion heir decides to launch his own line of clothing. His debut fashion show in Venice goes off well despite glitches, and his mother welcomes him back to the fold, asking him to take over House of Muratori in Italy. The couple, who is already on shaky ground after Emily turns down his imagined proposal, decides to part for good. Right now, career matters more for Emily than love, and she chooses Paris over Rome.
What about chef Gabriel?
Hot chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) is still in the picture. In the premiere episode, he travels to Rome to see Emily. When he sees her happy with Marcello, he backs down and goes back to Paris. Midway through the season, he decided to leave his Paris restaurant despite getting that coveted Michelin star. Gabriel will be the personal chef to British billionaire Thomas Heatherton (Jonathan Cake).
Emily and Gabriel meet again as friends when the chef returns for a brief trip to Paris, and they both agree to remain good friends. However, at the end of the series, Gabriel receives a text from Emily's boss, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), that Emily has broken up with Marcello and she's back in Paris. He sends Emily a postcard asking her to meet him in Greece, where he's currently docked. Does this mean a new location next season?

Sylvie's romantic entanglements
While Emily remains in a steady romance with Marcello for much of the season, Sylvie plays the game this season. In Rome, she has a fling with Italian director Giancarlo (Raoul Bova) and is found by husband Laurent (Arnaud Binard) as well. Their open marriage is more strained this season, with Sylvie asking him to move out.
Upon her return to Paris, she also has another affair with a young man named Beau, who ends up being her good friend Yvette's son. However, the season ends on a downer for the Agence Grateau boss as her assets are being seized by debt liquidators after Laurent puts up his club on mortgage. She is forced to bring in Minnie Driver's Princess Jane as co-owner to save her company.
Mindy and Nico back together again?
Ashley Park's Mindy begins the season as a free bird and enters into a summer fling with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) both in Paris and Rome, but that ends eventually. The brief affair also causes a small rift between best friends Emily and Mindy as the latter moves out of their shared apartment. The two mend their relationship and end up being closer than ever.
Mindy encounters a changed Nico (Paul Forman), who is ready to be the man she wanted. He and Marcello are joint investors in his new fashion line, and in Venice, it is Nico that proposes to Mindy, not Marcello, as Emily was assuming. Mindy says yes, and the two are finally engaged. Except there still is some unresolved tension between Alfie and Mindy from their fling. Plus, poor Nico has no idea that they dated. This is all going to blow spectacularly when the show returns for another season. All 10 episodes of
Emily in Paris Season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.
