Border
2, starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, is releasing on January 23, 2026, in theatres. Directed by Anurag Singh, it is a sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster film, Border, which starred Sunny Deol in the lead role. Border 2 has been creating a solid buzz amongst the masses since its announcement. The trailer is now out on the internet. The cinegoers are eagerly waiting to watch the war drama on the big screen. Before its grand release in theatres, let’s have a look at five reasons to watch Border 2 in theatres ahead of Republic Day 2026.
High On Nostalgia
Since it is a sequel to Border, the Sunny Deol-starrer Border 2 will be high on nostalgia. Like his blockbuster film, Gadar 2, the second installment of Border has some hard-hitting dialogues that will definitely give the audience goosebumps. Apart from that, the makers have also recreated iconic songs such as Sandese Aate Hain and Jaate Hue Lamho in Border 2.
Fresh Cast
Sunny Deol is the only actor from Border who will be starring in Border 2.
The makers have roped in young actors in the sequel. Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty will be seen playing key roles alongside Sunny Deol. Mona Singh will be seen opposite Sunny Deol. Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana and Anya Singh are playing the wives of Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty, respectively. Paramvir Singh Cheema is also playing a supporting role in Border.
Magic Of VFX
Border 2 will also be showing the magic of VFX on the big screen. As the patriotic film is based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the makers have used heavy visual effects to show that era effectively. Moreover, some intense battle scenes in the film will look even more effective on the big screen due to VFX.
Return Of Deshbhakti
Border had some hard-hitting dialogues and memorable scenes that made every Indian proud and emotional back in 1997. In the Border 2 trailer, Sunny Deol’s character is seen delivering powerful lines on deshbhakti (patriotism). The dialogues will definitely swell everyone’s chest with pride. It is indeed a return of deshbhakti.
Tribute to soldiers
Border 2 is releasing ahead of Republic Day 2026. Hence, it is going to be a perfect tribute to Indian soldiers who sacrifice their lives to protect our country from intruders.
