Adobe Firefly Just Got Its Biggest Update With Smarter AI Tools, Video Editor And Creative Agents
Times Now
Adobe’s Firefly model just got seriously powerful. At Max 2025, the world’s biggest creativity conference, Adobe dropped what might be its biggest AI update ever. Its creative AI platform Firefly now comes
packed with new video and audio tools, a smarter image model and something straight out of sci-fi — Project Moonlight, an AI agent that helps you brainstorm, design, and edit content just by describing what you want. All these updates and announcements are another major step in Adobe’s AI push. It has been using MAX as the platform to showcase some of these capabilities over the past few years. This year, it has just taken a big leap and if demos are to go by, anyone with or without the ability to edit videos or pictures, can actually make them with the help of just few text prompts. Simply said, Adobe is turning Firefly into a one-stop AI studio that can handle everything from the first spark of an idea to a polished video ready for upload.“We built Firefly to be a single place where you can work with the best AI models in the best creative tools,” said Ely Greenfield, CTO and SVP, Adobe. “It’s been amazing to see how creators are using it to bring ideas from concept to reality.”
Firefly now edits videos
If you have been using Adobe’s Creative Cloud, then Premiere Pro has probably been your go-to platform to edit videos. It got its own AI-powered tools. But, this year Adobe has really pushed the envelope by adding an AI-powered video editor to Firefly, even though it is still in beta stage. Think of it as a creative control room where you can generate, trim and organise clips just by typing what you want. Want to add a soundtrack or voiceover? Do it right inside the browser. You can even style your video with presets like claymation, anime, or 2D illustration or combine captured clips with Firefly-generated content. All of these capabilities and features live within the same, be it timeline, generation history, transcript and assets. So you can go from text prompt to finished video faster than ever. And, anyone with little to no knowledge about video editing but some creative sensibilities can actually come up with cool content. There is more you can do with Adobe’s new audio tools that are designed to handle what used to take entire studios.Generate Soundtrack (public beta): Instantly creates fully licensed, studio-grade music using Adobe’s Firefly Audio Model. The best part? Every track is copyright-safe and synced perfectly with your video.Generate Speech (public beta): Turn text into lifelike voiceovers using voices powered by Firefly Speech Model and ElevenLabs. You can tweak tone, emotion, and pacing and generate natural voices in multiple languages.Basically, you can now make an entire YouTube video — visuals, voice and vibe — without leaving Firefly. When it comes to pictures, Firefly can now deliver 4MP photorealistic output, with skin texture, lighting and fine detail that’s shockingly close to pro photography. It also powers a new feature called Prompt to Edit which lets you make changes to pictures using just text prompts. Another interesting element to Firefly is the boards — a dashboard to ideate, which is now more interactive. You can rotate 2D images into 3D views, move characters around and experiment with different perspectives before you start building. There’s PDF export, bulk image downloads and style presets for faster ideation as well. Project Moonlight is the new creative AI assistantNow for the big one. Adobe previewed Project Moonlight, at MAX a new agentic AI system built into Firefly. Think of it as an AI co-creator that actually understands your workflow. You can actually give it commands and Moonlight will do everything for you, from planning content, generating assets to suggesting edits. It can even learn from your past work or social posts to stay on-brand. Moonlight is currently in private beta, with early access rolling out soon. What makes this update special is that Adobe is opening Firefly to the entire AI ecosystem. You’ll now find models from:Google (Veo 3.1, Imagen 4, Gemini 2.5 Flash)OpenAI (GPT Image)Runway and Luma AI (video generation)Topaz Labs (upscaling via Bloom)ElevenLabs (voice generation)Creators can switch between models directly within Firefly without any extra subscriptions or separate interfaces. That makes Firefly one of the few creative platforms where you can use Adobe’s own models and partner AI tools side by side.As far as rollout goes, here is what you need to know:Available today (public beta): Firefly Image Model 5, Generate Soundtrack, Generate Speech, Prompt to Edit.Coming soon (private beta): Firefly Video Editor, Firefly Custom Models, Firefly Creative Production, and Project Moonlight. Also, Creative Cloud Pro and Firefly subscribers get unlimited image and video generations until December 1, 2025.
