Times Now
Sayani Gupta, known for her powerful and socially aware performances, recently opened up about the harsh realities of human trafficking in India, and her shocking discovery that Pune, a city she once called
home, is reportedly a major hub. In an exclusive chat with Zoom, Sayani reflected on her recent short film Dear Men opened her eyes to a disturbing truth hidden beneath everyday normalcy. The actress is currently promoting Delhi Crime Season 3.
Sayani Gupta on Pune being 'epicentre of trafficking'
Speaking about her experience, Sayani said, “I just did a short film called Dear Men. So Dipesh Tank - he’s a journalist - for the last 20 years, he’s dedicated his life to rescuing little girls. We all know it’s all over around us, right? Probably the perpetrators are people we meet every day. But the density - and only then, you know, when you get into it, that’s when you start understanding things.”The actress continued, “Apparently, Pune is the epicentre of trafficking. I didn’t know that. We stayed, lived in Pune. Pune for me is such a like, oh, it’s just a college town, all of that, right? We have spent some of the best years in Pune. Of course, it was a little island, you know, we felt very safe in Pune. But how, what and that whole supply-demand thing, how? I mean, it’s a nexus and how that is being carried out, the whole machinery, it’s a huge machinery, right? So that’s what I mean, we all feel it. And unfortunately, we are still in the very tiny privileged section and we still face it.”Watch the interview:
