With
every series that ends these days on streaming, fans are becoming more and more vocal about their opinions. On May 20, the Amazon Prime Video series The Boys aired its final episode after five seasons. There was plenty of action and many deaths as the battle between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) came to head. On IMDb, the average rating of the show has remained at about 8. But the last two episodes have racked up a lot of chatter online, as they have become the lowest-rated episodes of the entire series. Here's what fans are saying and why it was rated so low. Warning: Spoilers ahead!
The Boys Season 5 episodes are lowest ever in the series
On IMDb, episodes 7 and 8 are currently rated at 6.3 and 6.6, respectively. Last week, the seventh episode was ranked at 7.1; it has fallen further since then. While 32,000 viewers voted for the seventh episode titled
The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk out of 10, 51,000 viewers voted for the series finale titled
Blood and Bone. The first episode of the final season, called Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite, is the highest rated, with 8.9 out of 10. None of the episodes have gone higher than 9.
Developed by Eric Kripke, the superhero satire is an adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comics. Several changes have been made from the comics to the small screen and fans have been upset about certain of them, especially dealing with the big bad for the past five seasons, Homelander. The Supe leader's death occurred around the midway point of the episode and many viewers didn't like that the character begged for his life before he was killed by Butcher. Others wondered what the point of the spinoff series
Gen V was, which sent its main characters Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Jordon (London Thor), and Emma (Lizze Broadway) north of the border in the finale.
Gen V has been cancelled after its second season and these characters will not be seen again.
Eric Kripke reacts online to Elon Musk's review of The Boys finale
On X (formerly Twitter), showrunner Kripke was also ecstatic to get a rise out of platform owner Elon Musk. He wrote that Musk's reaction to Homelander's ending was the best.
He added, "I’ll never get a better review ever." In the episode, Homelander sends a Musk-like billionaire into outer space and leaves him there when he begins to make demands of the new leader of the US. While
The Boys has ended, the prequel spinoff series
Vought Rising is set to premiere next year with Jensen Ackles in the lead.
