singer Asha Bhosle’s death is a big loss to Indian cinema and industry. Many singers who worked with her are mourning the veteran's demise on social media. Singer and politician Babul Supriyo is heartbroken after learning of Asha Bhosle’s demise. In an exclusive interaction with Zoom, Babul confessed that Asha ji was close to him and his family. He recalled receiving a cheque worth Rs 40,000 signed by her. He has kept it at his house as a memory. Apart from that, Supriyo also recalled the advice given by Asha Tai during their concerts together.
Babul Supriyo on Asha Bhosle’s demise
In a candid chat with us, Babul Supriyo mourned Asha Bhosle’s demise and said that such artists never die. He said, "Such artists never die. Asha Bhosle will always remain alive until there is Bollywood, music and so many things. It's a personal loss for me. I have done many shows with her. I have got an opportunity to know her closely. She was very close to my family. When my mother passed away during Covid, she had called me and met our family. She was very close to my family.” The
Hum Tum singer confessed that Asha Bhosle was very contemporary. She would like to see people stylish rather than in formals. While speaking about fashion, the singer said, “She was a gem of a person. When I did my first show with her in 1996, I would get intimidated by her. I was all prepared to sing with her on stage. I had packed suits to wear while performing with her. She did not say anything for the first two days. On the third day, she asked me why I don't wear casual outfits. I was so relieved by her comment. I quickly went to shop for contemporary clothes the next day.”
Babul Supriyo also revealed that he used Asha Tai's voice with the use of AI for his latest album,
Inteha Ho Gayi 2.0.
Asha Tai was foodie: Babul Supriyo
Apart from being a fantastic singer, Asha Bhosle was an amazing cook. Babul Supriyo said, “She was a foodie. I still remember eating Maharashtrian Kolhapuri-style mutton at her house, which was especially prepared by her. I would also eat fish cooked by her. Asha Tai was a fantastic cook. She was like a mother to me.”
Special memory with Asha ji
Babul Supriyo recalled receiving Rs 40,000 cheque signed by Asha Bhosle in 1997. He said, “Asha ji, Lata ji brought the golden era to the industry. They are an inspiration for many. I have learned how they consider their profession so seriously. At this age, Asha ji would do riyaz regularly. She would always advise me to read the song thrice and then sing it in tune. In 1997, I received a Rs 40,000 cheque from Asha ji. It had her sign. I have kept that safely.” The singer further said that he was in talks with Asha Bhosle six months ago for a show in Bhopal. He said, “I wanted to do a show with her in Bhopal but things didn't materialise. I am going to miss her a lot. Asha Bhosle will never die. She will stay alive in our hearts, songs and memories.” The singer’s mortal remains have reached her house in Mumbai. Celebrities and politicians have been arriving to pay their last respects to the legend. Her funeral will take place at Shivaji Park on Monday (April 13) at 4 pm.
