The
Harry Potter TV series is being launched on Christmas 2026 with child actors Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout taking over the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. Not only are the new child stars about to become overnight stars after Season 1 of their show airs. The preteen trio are also going to have a hefty bank account by the end of the seven seasons, which will adapt JK Rowling's Harry Potter books. The child actors are set to become very rich; here's how much they will earn and how they compare to the previous trio, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.
Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout's salaries for Harry Potter series
According to a report in
The Sun,
Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will be paid £500,000 ($660k) each for the first season. A TV insider also claimed that the pre-teens will become "multi-millionaires before they turn 18." McLaughlin and Stout are 12 years old, while Stanton is one year younger.
That could be true if the interests are protected well. In the US, Coogan's Law requires that 15 per cent of a minor’s salary be kept aside in a blocked trust account. This ensures that the money is kept safe until they come of age at 18. The State of California passed this bill in 1939 after child actor Jackie Coogan's entire fortune of $4 million (around $70-80 million today) was stolen by his mother and stepfather. However, in the UK, where the new series is being produced and filmed, there are no such laws protecting child actors. Usually, a percentage of the salaries is put into a trust, which is mentioned in their contracts. Their wages are kept safe until they are old enough to use it. Additionally, in the UK, the child actors' parents can't spend the money earned by them, as they can be charged under theft and fraud laws. While the child stars still need to pay taxes like the adult counterparts, they are exempt from paying National Insurance on their earnings until they’re over 16.
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint's earnings
When
Radcliffe took on the role of Harry Potter in the 2001 film
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, he is said to have earned nearly $1 million for the first film. Watson and Grint as Hermione and Ron, earned a little less than Radcliffe. By the time the last films,
Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2, were made in 2010 and 2011, the trio had a massive pay raise.
Radcliffe reportedly earned around $50 million for both films. Watson and Grint each earned $30 million for the final two films. Over the course of the eight films in the franchise, Radcliffe took home an estimated $95 million. Watson is said to have earned around $60-70 million, while Grint earned around $50 million.
