Avengers Doomsday: Russo Brothers Start 1-Year Countdown For Marvel Film, Fans Say 'DOOM IS COMING'

Get ready, Marvel fans; the countdown to Avengers: Doomsday is officially underway! The co-directors of the upcoming Marvel Studios film, Anthony and Joe Russo, introduced their official countdown to the film.

Avengers: Doomsday is releasing in theatres on December 18, 2026. The follow-up to Avengers: Endgame (2019) has assembled (pardon the pun) a massive star cast with Robert Downey Jr returning to the franchise as Doctor Doom. Fans can't control their excitement as they wait to see all their favourite characters from the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men team up to face Downey's Doctor Doom.

Russo Brothers start countdown to Avengers: Doomsday

On Instagram, co-directors and brothers Anthony and Joe Russo dropped the countdown to the next film in the Avengers saga as they wrote simply, "1 year…" Using the logo of their production banner, AGBO, and the official title card of the movie Avengers: Doomsday, the filmmakers kickstarted the countdown to the Marvel film. In between the countdown clock, a slight glitch introduces the word 'Doomsday' in the countdown.

The superhero film wrapped up filming earlier this year and has a year in post-production to complete an epic battle of the greatest names in comic book history. Written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Doomsday features a massive cast of Marvel stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr.

Fan reactions to the countdown

As expected, fans went crazy after seeing the countdown clock being started by the directors themselves. Several fans are waiting for the arrival of Downey's Doom as comments screamed, "DOOM IS COMING," and "DOOMSDAY CLOCK LETS GOOOOOOOO." While another fan stated, "AGBO: Avengers Gonna Be Obliterated."

Four teaser trailers for Avengers Doomsday

Earlier reports suggested that four different trailers for Avengers: Doomsday were going to be attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash. Each trailer would focus on a different character from Captain America, Thor, and Doctor Doom, with the final being a trailer for the actual film scheduled to release next year.
