Madhuri
Dixit has come out in strong support of her Devdas co-star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after the actress faced online trolling and body-shaming over her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2026. Calling Aishwarya a global icon who has represented India with grace for over two decades, Madhuri said it was unfair to judge women based on body size, age, or appearance. She stressed that Aishwarya’s achievements, beauty, and contribution to Indian cinema go far beyond superficial criticism. Aishwarya, a Cannes regular for more than 20 years, once again drew global attention with her red carpet appearances this year.
What did Madhuri Dixit say about Aishwarya Rai?
Speaking to
PTI,
Madhuri Dixit said that Aishwarya Rai has been going to Cannes for over 20 years. She has done the whole country proud. Calling her a global star, Madhuri added that as a Miss World, she has done so much for the country."You cannot reduce her to a number on a scale or a number on the dress or the size or a number on the calendar years. You cannot reduce her to that. She is beautiful. She looks beautiful but she is beautiful inside," Madhuri told the news agency.
Madhuri criticised the negative social media discourse around Aishwarya's appearance. She said that people had to realise what kind of message such comments were sending to youngsters. According to her, these remarks suggested that a person's worth depended on their looks rather than their achievements, which she believed was a completely wrong message to send. According to Madhuri, social media had become a medium for anyone to comment on anything. She said that such people had existed even earlier, but they did not have a platform to express their opinions. However, today, they had the means to comment freely.
