Ramayana,
starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, is being produced at a staggering combined budget of Rs 4000 crore for both parts. The teaser of the film was released on April 2, 2025, and it has already created massive excitement across the country. Despite the enormous financial stakes involved, Namit Malhotra is showing complete faith in his vision and is refusing to take the easy path when it comes to selling the film's digital rights.
Why Did Ramayana Producer Namit Malhotra Reject Rs 700 Crore OTT Deal?
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Namit Malhotra received an offer of Rs 700 crore from an OTT platform for the digital rights of both parts of Ramayana combined. This is reportedly the highest OTT offer ever made for an Indian film by a very large margin. However, Namit turned down the offer without much hesitation. The reason, according to the report, is that he believes Ramayana deserves far more than what is being offered, given the scale and cultural importance of the film.
Namit and his team are currently expecting nothing less than Rs 1000 crore for the OTT rights of both parts combined. They are confident that once more content from the film is revealed publicly, streaming platforms will significantly increase their offers.Sources also suggest that Namit may consider selling the digital rights of Part 1 separately first, and then hold back the rights of Part 2 until after Part 1 releases in theatres. This is a strategy that was also used by the team behind Dhurandhar.By holding the digital, satellite, and music rights close to his chest, Namit is taking a calculated but high-risk approach. He is banking on Ramayana's massive theatrical potential across global markets to recover the bulk of the Rs 4000 crore investment.
