Aamir Khan Recalls Introducing Son Azad To Dharmendra; Speaks About Not Attending Sholay Actor’s Prayer Meet

demise left the entire film fraternity devastated. Today, the veteran actor’s prayer meet was held in Mumbai’s Taj Lands End. Many celebrities from showbiz attended it. However, Aamir Khan couldn’t attend it due to his scheduled appearance at the International Film Festival of India aka IFFI 2025, in Goa. At the event, Aamir recalled introducing his son Azad to Dharmendra and spoke about not attending his prayer meet.

At the 56th International Film Festival of India, Aamir Khan recalled how he introduced his youngest son, Azad, to the late actor Dharmendra. He said, “One day, I took Azad with me, you know, my son. I said, 'I want you to meet someone,' because Azad has not seen his work, really. But Azad came with me, and we spent a couple of hours with him, and it was really wonderful. You know, Dharamji was not only such a fine actor, but he was a great human being.” Aamir Khan calls himself a fan of Dharmendra. He admires the Sholay actor for his body of work. He said, “Well, I’ve grown up watching him. He was known as the action hero and the he-man. And of course, he was extremely good, you know, portraying these strong characters in action films. But I think he is underrated. His performances in romance or different genres – he’s done so well.”

“He does amazing comedy, he does amazing romance, you know, dramas. So, according to me, Dharamji was right up there as one of the finest actors that we have. For the unversed, Dharmendra died on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89. Aamir stated, “Today, in fact, I’m not there in Bombay, but today is his prayer meeting, unfortunately. I’m missing it. And I was very close to him because in the last year, I must have met him several times. I used to really enjoy his company, so I used to go and sit with him.” “He was so gentle. No matter who he would meet, whether it’s a colleague or someone not from the industry, he would always be very warm and soft in meeting people. So, he was a wonderful person, he was a great actor, and it’s a great loss for all of us,” Aamir Khan concluded. Talking about Dharmendra’s prayer meet, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Rekha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Jeetendra and others came to pay their last respects to the late veteran actor.
