OpenAI has introduced a new feature inside ChatGPT called Workspace Agents, aimed at teams and organisations that work together on shared tasks. The new tool is designed to keep working in the background, even when users are offline, making it feel less like a chatbot and more like a digital coworker that never really clocks out. The ChatGPT maker says these agents are the next step beyond GPTs and are built to handle real workplace workflows. Keep on reading to know everything about OpenAI’s new Workspace Agents feature. What Are Workspace Agents In ChatGPT?The US-based AI giant says Workspace Agents are powered by Codex and can handle many common office tasks.“Powered by Codex, they can take on many of the tasks people already do at work—from
preparing reports, to writing code, to responding to messages,” OpenAI said in a blog post.Unlike regular chatbots, these agents run in the cloud. That means they can continue processing tasks even when you close ChatGPT or log out for the day.OpenAI also says these agents are meant to be shared across teams.“They’re also designed to be shared within an organisation, so teams can build an agent once, use it together in ChatGPT or Slack and improve it over time.”How Workspace Agents WorkUsers can either describe a task in plain language or upload a file and ChatGPT helps convert that into a workflow. It can define steps, connect tools, and assign actions automatically. For example, an agent could gather data from multiple platforms, organise it and prepare a final report or email draft. It can also pause and ask for approval before sending emails or making important changes, so humans stay in control. The popular AI company has also added admin tools for organisations. These include usage monitoring, permission controls and safeguards to protect sensitive company data. The system is also designed to prevent misuse or harmful instructions.Availability And PricingWorkspace Agents are currently available in research preview. The feature can be accessed by ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu and Teachers plan users. Enterprise and Edu admins can enable it using role-based access controls. For now, the feature is free to use until May 6, 2026. After that, OpenAI plans to switch to a credit-based pricing model.
