Kapoor is set to turn Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari's highly ambitious and much-awaited Hindu mythological saga, Ramayana. After months of speculation, the makers finally released the first glimpse of Ranbir as Maryada Purshottam. The movie also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Touted to be the biggest film ever made in India, this Namit Malhotra production is set to release on Diwali this year. With a massive budget of around Rs 4000 crore for its planned two-part release, the first installment alone is estimated at Rs 800+ crore, making it a VFX-heavy mythological spectacle.

The teaser of Ramayana: The Introduction revealed a clear look of Ranbir in his character. While we only saw side glimpses of Ravi Dubey and Sai Pallavi, along with the kingdom of Ravana, the video titled Rama focussed primarily on the life and adventures of Ranbir's character. The visuals stand out for being grand and magnificient.The makers unveiled the teaser in Los Angeles on Tuesday (March 31), with Ranbir meeting fans as part of the event to understand their first reaction. Today, the teaser was officially released for a global audience.

Ranbir Kapoor on playing Lord Rama

Ranbir Kapoor, along with Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra, opened up about their vision, perspective behind telling the Hindu mythological epic to the world, and the spiritual and emotional connection. During an interaction with the audience, Ranbir revealed that he had initially refused to sign the film.He explained that the preparation was not just physical, but emotional and spiritual too. "I remember when Namit offered me this part around 4 years ago, my instant reaction was 'No', I'm not fit enough, not good enough, and I won't be able to do full justice."

But it was his daughter, Raha, because of whom he agreed to finally do it. "That fear very quickly turned into gratitude because opportunities like this were needed very much in my life. I was in a period in my life where I needed to change my life and lifestyle. I became a father for the first time. I think the sweet coincidence of playing Lord Rama and becoming a father was needed for a turning point in my life," the actor added.The teaser of Ramayana was expected to drop on Ram Navami, however, it was postponed to Hanuman Jayanti.
