Commuters at the Namo Bharat station can now get faster help if they get trapped in the lifts. A new artificial intelligence-powered system developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) can now detect such incidents within 60 seconds and alert the staff at the stations immediately, as per PTI. This is being introduced at stations such as Ghaziabad to improve the safety of the passengers and reduce the rescue time. How The New AI System WorksThis new AI system will use cameras inside the lift areas to monitor the activities in real time. If a person gets stuck inside the elevators, it will identify the situation within a minute and alert the Operations Control Centre (OCC).Moreover, an alarm rings at the lift location
so that the staff will act quickly. If the action is not taken within another 60 seconds, the system will raise the alert level to critical, pushing for urgent responses. Previously, the passengers were required to press the alarm button or use intercoms to call the staff. This was based on the computer’s ability to react. Now, the process has become more automatic and quick for rescuing passengers. This system will detect the problem, alert the staff and will keep escalating the alarms until the person has been rescued. As per the NCRTC officials, this system has been developed using the existing CCTV network and more importantly, the technology does not depend on the usage of cloud services and internet. The official added that all the related data is processed with a secured system which locally manages the to project the privacy and enables the system to function even if there is any connectivity issue. NCRTC believes that the technology can be used beyond metro stations. It can help users in places like railway stations, commercial buildings, hospitals, airports and more.
