The
story of Money Heist seems to be far from over. Fans might get to see Álvaro Morte as The Professor, planning another robbery on the tune of Bella Ciao once again. Netflix has, over the past few days been teasing netizens of a possible new chapter in the world of La Casa de Papel. While we are yet to know whether the Spanish show is returning with a new Season 3 (Part 6), a brand new spinoff after Berlin, or just the next installment in Pedro Alonso-led offshoot. As the audience awaits for a confirmation, the streamer dropped another clip reminding us of the phenomenon Money Heist had become, before it marked its finale in 2021.
Money Heist's new teaser
On May 12, Netflix across its various channels, released a clip with the caption, "The dream continues. The universe of 'Money Heist' expands." It showed the return of the masked figures in the iconic red jumpsuits gathering across different places, from alleys to streets. As its symbolic Dali masks are kept in focus, the video ends with Álvaro Morte himself removing his mask to reveal himself, hinting at either reprising his career-defining role of The Professor, or something on those lines.
Recent teasers and cryptic marketing posts reignited fan excitement, with many wondering whether The Professor could return for another chapter, a prequel, or a completely new spin-off within the same universe.
What is Money Heist about?
Money Heist began as a Spanish crime thriller with modest expectations but evolved into one of the biggest global streaming phenomena in television history. Created by Álex Pina, the series originally premiered on Spanish television before being acquired by Netflix, which transformed it into an international sensation.
Money Heist, also known in Spanish as La Casa de Papel, followed a mysterious mastermind called The Professor (Álvaro Morte), as he assembled a group of criminals for ambitious heists targeting the Royal Mint of Spain (Season 1-2) and later the Bank of Spain (Season 3).
Money Heist's mammoth global success
What made the series unique was not just the robbery plot, but its emotional storytelling, anti-establishment themes, unpredictable twists, and deeply human characters like Tokyo, Berlin, Nairobi, and Rio.
The red jumpsuits and Salvador Dalí masks soon became globally recognisable symbols of rebellion and resistance. The Italian anti-fascist song Bella Ciao, heavily featured in the series, also became internationally popular again because of the show. The success of Money Heist turned it into one of Netflix's most-watched non-English productions ever. It dominated streaming charts across Europe, Asia, Latin America, India, and the Middle East. In countries like India, the series achieved cult status, helping accelerate mainstream acceptance of international and non-English content on streaming platforms.
Money Heist's spinoff Berlin
The franchise later expanded into a broader universe. Netflix released Berlin, centered on Pedro Alonso's fan-favorite character Berlin. Rather than simply recreating the tension of the original series, Berlin explored stylish European heists with a more romantic and playful tone. The success of the spin-off proved that audiences were still deeply invested in the Money Heist world even after the main story concluded in 2021.Berlin premiered its Season 1, titled Berlin and the Jewels of Paris on 29 December 2023 with eight episodes. It'll return with Season 2, Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine, scheduled to release on 15 May 2026.
