India and Elizabeth director Shekhar Kapur has booked his next project. The filmmaker took to social media to announce that he has signed on to adapt and direct the book My Name Is Memory by Ann Brashares for Amazon Prime Video. The epic romance tale comes from the author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and is a story that is about love and reincarnation that transcends time. Shekhar Kapur's next is TV adaptation of novel My Name is Memory
On X, Shekhar shared an update about his next project and confirmed that he had signed with Amazon MGM Studios in the US to adapt, direct and produce the tentpole series based on Brashares' best-selling novel. Sharing a few details about the adaptation, Shekhar shared that the show will first be based in the US and eventually follow a beautiful and intense love story over several centuries and places in the world.
The filmmaker added, "It is an exciting mysterious, heartbreaking and ultimately heartwarming adventure that takes the audience through wars, conflict and empires and even into the future. It reinforces the idea that ‘Love is Forever’."
Shekhar Kapur's recent works
The actor-turned-director's last film was the British rom-com What's Love Got to Do with It? starring Lily James, Shazad Latif, Emma Thompson and
Shabana Azmi. He is also working on a sequel to his 1983 film Masoom. The spiritual sequel Masoom: The Next Generation reunites Shabana and Naseeruddin Shah, who were a part of the 1983 film. Manoj Bajpayee, Nithya Menen and Shekhar's daughter Kaveri Kapur have also been cast in the feature.

The novel by Brashares revolves around a man named Daniel who has spent centuries falling in love with the same young woman named Sophia. In the present day, Sophia is now called Lucy. As Daniel tries to reawaken her memory of their shared love, a mysterious force tears them apart again.
My Name Is Memory is the first of a three-book series written by Brashares.
Brashares' previous book series,
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, was adapted into two features. The 2005 young adult film featured Alexis Bledel as Lena, Amber Tamblyn as Tibby, America Ferrera as Carmen, and
Blake Lively as Bridget. A sequel titled
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 was released in 2008.
