Acclaimed Tamil actor Vijay has been questioned by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for 6 hours today, January 12 on the Karur stampede case. A leading news agency has also reported that he will be called
again for questioning as some queries need to be clarified further. Vijay reached the CBI headquarters at 11.29 am and left around 6.15 pm. For the unversed, Vijay was questioned about the deadly stampede happened on September 27 during a rally in which 41 people were killed and over 60 people were injured in Karur, about 400 km from Chennai.

As per PTI, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay was called by CBI and questioned for nearly 6 hours following September 27 rally when people were injured and killed in Karur. The CBI had wanted him to come on Tuesday (January 13) for questioning, but the actor requested an alternative date, citing Pongal. As per reports, many fans and followers were gathered outside the premises to support him.
Key questions during investigation
The reports also state that one of the key question during the investigation was the alleged seven hour delay to reach the venue. As the crowd reportedly grew from an estimated 10,000 people to around 30,000, he was also questioned about the coordination with local police and district administration.

While ordering a CBI probe on October 26, the Supreme Court pointed out that public confidence had taken a hit after senior Tamil Nadu police officers came out in defence of their colleagues. The court said the situation highlighted the urgent need for an impartial, independent and unbiased investigation to reassure people and restore trust in the criminal justice system. For the unaware, the case was handed over to the CBI by the Supreme Court on a petition filed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for an independent probe.
