While Neeraj Ghaywan’s film was chosen as the official entry in the Best International Feature Film category, Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, animated film Mahavatar Narasimha, Tourist Family, Tanvi the Great, and Sister Midnight have met the eligibility criteria for the Academy Awards’ Best Picture consideration list. These films are yet to be shortlisted for the prestigious honour, but the milestone is being widely celebrated. - Chapter 1 has completed 100 days in theatres. The actor-director tweeted on Saturday, January 10: "100 days of #KantaraChapter1! I’m grateful to my team and to everyone who supported us with so much love."Reacting to the Oscars update, he added, "Feeling incredibly proud that the film has reached audiences around the world and is now Oscar-qualified."

Earlier, Hombale Films announced on social media that Kantara: Chapter 1 and Mahavatar Narasimha have been submitted to the Academy’s General Entry List. For those unversed, both the movies are now eligible for consideration in key Oscar categories such as Best Picture, acting, direction, cinematography, production design, and screenplay. They will first be reviewed by the Academy before getting shortlisted and nominated. About Kantara: Chapter 1Directed by and headlined by Rishab, Kantara: Chapter 1 is the prequel of the 2022 hit. The mythological drama also featured Rukmini Vasanth and Gulshan Devaiah in pivotal roles.
