Akshay
Kumar and Priyadarshan reunite for the upcoming horror-comedy, titled Bhooth Bangla. Co-starring Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi and Mithila Palkar, the film marks Akshay’s return to the genre after Laxmii in 2020. Recent reports claimed that Bhooth Bangla was the script of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, where Kartik Aaryan stepped into the veteran actor’s shoes after his exit. Now, the makers of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise denied the news as false. In an official statement from T-Series, the speculation of script recycling was denied. It has been confirmed that Bhooth Bangla and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, are different entities.
Bhooth Bangla isn't Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 script
In an official statement, the production house stated that both films are not related. Shiv Chanana, co-producer of
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, said there is no factual basis to the claims linking them. He clarified that the production house never received any script from
Priyadarshan for
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which was directed by Anees Bazmee. He also shared that the Kartik Aaryan-led films are exclusive to the production house, and stories developed under the franchise are unique to them.
Chanana further threatened legal action against those who claim unlawful credit for the
Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise. Its name and concept are reserved with T-Series. The makers of
Bhooth Bangla are yet to respond to the rumours.
Fact-checking rumour
As per a news portal’s report,
Bhooth Bangla was intended to be
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Priyadarshan had reportedly written the script with the hope of finding Bhushan Kumar’s support in backing it. However, the report claimed the collaboration did not work out and instead of Priyadarshan, Anees was brought on board to direct the spiritual sequel with a fresh cast. The film starred Tabu and Kiara Advani instead of Vidya Balan and Ameesha Patel. The third part of the franchise was led by Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, Kartik and Triptii Dimri.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 released in 2024.
