3: The Final Chapter has taken the box office by storm, proving once again why the franchise remains one of Indian cinema’s most liked thrillers. Directed by Jeethu Joseph and headlined by Mohanlal as Georgekutty, the film opened to impressive numbers worldwide despite mixed critical reactions. While some viewers criticised the film’s slow-paced first half, audience faith in the film and franchise loyalty translated into packed theatres and massive collections across India and overseas markets. The thriller has already crossed Rs 43 crore globally on Day 1, making it one of the biggest Malayalam openings of 2026 and establishing Mohanlal’s box office power.

While some film buffs criticised the slower pace of the first half, the anticipation surrounding the third part of the franchise translated into big collections across India and outside the country as well. According to Sacnilk, the thriller collected Rs 15.85 crore net in India on Day 1 across 5,506 shows. The Malayalam version alone earned Rs 13.70 crore net with an occupancy rate of nearly 67 percent across 3,503 shows. Evening and night shows recorded solid footfalls in Kerala and several other centres.
`The overseas performance turned out to be even more impressive. As per Sacnilk, that the film grossed nearly Rs 25 crore internationally on its opening day, pushing the worldwide gross collection beyond Rs 43 crore. Kerala emerged as the strongest domestic market with Rs 11.15 crore gross collections.
Mohanlal’s Georgekutty Returns to Dominate the Global Box Office
With its massive opening, Drishyam 3: The Final Chapter has already become the sixth-highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2026 globally. The film has surpassed the lifetime collection of Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam and is now eyeing even bigger milestones in the coming days.
Trade analysts predict that the thriller could become the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year by the end of its first weekend if the appreciation for the film continues. The Telugu dubbed version also contributed decent numbers by collecting around Rs 1.50 crore net in select centres. Especially since it was reported that Venkatesh has backed out the Telugu remake of the film. Produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, the film also stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Siddique, and Asha Sarath reprising their roles from the earlier installments.The third chapter continues Georgekutty’s story as his hidden past resurfaces to threaten the peaceful life he fought hard to protect for his family.
