Aditi
Dev Sharma and Daksh Puri starrer new television show Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar is already making noise. Soon after Colors TV's upcoming series dropped its promos, netizens started getting reminded of classic K-drama, Something In the Rain. The 2018 title that featured actors Son Ye-Jin and Jung Hae-In currently streams on Netflix and Viki, and continues to remain a fan favourite. So, given its popularity, viewers quickly recalling the Korean project as soon as Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar's first look got revealed, makes sense. Audience's reactions flooded social media. So, how does Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar remind of Something In the Rain?
What do Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar promos show?
Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar released two promos. While in one, we see a distraught Aditi, struggling with a failed relationship and coming across as a character who might be a career woman, but is caught up in the monotony of life. As she's lost in her thoughts, trying to fix her broken footwear on a road, Daksh on the cycle passes by. He stops leaving Aditi startled. As Aditi asks him when he got back, he says he was always around. The catch here comes when Aditi's character says "If you weren't the younger brother of my friend, I'd have beaten you."
Even the second promo, Aditi asks Daksh the kind of girl he likes. He says around his age of 25, leaving her disappointed, until he adds that if the girl has a beautiful heart, he can love even a 35-year-old woman.
Why does Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar remind of Something In the Rain?
The two promos are a frame-by-frame copy of
Something In the Rain, where Son Ye-Jin is initially struggling with boyfriend issues, a sexist office environment and lack of self-confidence, when Jung Hae-In returns to her life after studying abroad. He's the younger brother of her best friend. As they start spending more time together, she begins to fall for him, only to realise that he had always loved her. What follows is a beautiful story of love, emotional healing, friendship, a complicated relationship and how the two fight the world despite their age difference and social norms.
Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar also seems to show Daksh secretly falling in love with Aditi, while she still sees him only as a friend and family member. This emotional imbalance is expected to be one of the main conflicts that drive the story forward.
Fans of K-drama react
Many netizens alleged that
Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar indeed reminds them of Something In the Rain. A user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "One of my fav kdrma "something in the rain" is being remade by itv and I'm not even happy." A second one reacted, "I dont watch TV anymore but wdym! You are remaking “something in the rain” in india. Wait how many episodes its going to be. The actor, intimate scenes? I have lot of concerns. Bro i need to rewatch the show maybe. Ok i will stay silent. All the best anyway."
Another fan wrote, "I kinda like Aditi Sharma, but I honestly don’t think the essence of Something in the Rain can be captured perfectly, just like Saiyaara couldn’t reach the emotional depth of A Moment to Remember. The chemistry between Haein and Yejin was truly on another level. Maybe I’ll still give this show a try, but in my opinion, Junhee and Jina are simply unmatched."An excited viewer posted, "Seated for this coz of aditi, she's insane she looks so beautiful. and it's an adaptation of kdrama something in the rain."
