and a half years after the groundbreaking first season of Kohrra, Netflix is bringing its sequel to the streaming platform on February 11. The latest edition is directed by Sudip Sharma and Faisal Rahman. Kohrra, set in Punjab, focuses on a new case with the entry of Dhanwant Kaur, a strict cop played by Mona Singh. Amarpal Garundi (Barun Sobti) teams up with her to solve an important case. In the first season, he accompanied Sub-Inspector Balbir Singh Sekhon to identify the murderer of an NRI groom-to-be. Pooja Bhamrrah joins Kohrra franchise with the second season. Ahead of part 2’s release, let us rewind back in time and revise the ending of the first season.
What is Kohrra about?
Kohrra is set in a quiet town in Punjab, where drugs and crime rate is high. Sub-Inspector Balbir Singh Sekhon and Sub-Inspector Amarpal Garundi are cops in charge of solving the high-profile murder case of an NRI wealthy man, Paul’s (Vishal Handa) death a few days before marrying Veera (Aanand Priya). His throat is found slit in the middle of the field. The case is not as easy as it appears on the surface.
Murder secrets
While Paul and Veera seem to be the perfect couple, their relationship holds many secrets that are unveiled gradually in the final episode. After all the investigation, Balbir finds a shocking connection between Paul and Liam’s (Ivantiy Novak) untimely deaths. With the help of the forensic report, he discovers that Paul loved Liam, not Veera, and they were a couple. Paul’s father, Steve (Manish Chaudhari), is unable to process the revelation about his dead son’s sexuality. Liam’s mother, Clara (Rachel Shelley), intervenes to calm him down. She was the only one to know about their relationship, and Paul asked her not to disclose it, fearing his father’s rage.
Worldview change
Understanding the mistake he made as a single father to daughter Nimrat (
Harleen Sethi), Balbir visits her in the hospital. When she gets discharged, he calls her beau Karan (Lokesh Batta) and approves their relationship. He realises the blunders committed as a parent and lets his daughter live life on her own terms.
Mystery unfolds
When Balbir meets Clara to hand over Liam’s remains, she tells him a secret that solves the entire case. She reveals that on the night of Paul’s murder, Liam had called her, which went to her voicemail. Balbir visits the crime site and reconstructs the events to tie up all the loose ends of the mystery. Liam’s voicemail helps him put it together. On the fatal night, Liam and Paul argue with Saakar (Saurav Khurana) at the bar. When he goes to meet Veera, she tells him about her ex-boyfriend. After learning everything, he drops her home and says goodbye to her. At the same time, Paul gets a call from Liam. They meet in the fields. As Paul’s wedding preparations are in full swing, Liam feels cheated as he is not willing to come out of the closet. As they start making out in the field, Liam feels deceived, and they end up in a scuffle. Amid this, he pushes Paul away and slashes his throat accidentally. He calls his mother immediately to confess. While walking across the field and an abandoned road, a truck hits him, and Liam also dies.
How does Kohrra end?
Paul and Liam’s deaths and this high-profile case change Balbir’s worldview as a human and parent. Once a strict father, who imposed many restrictions on his daughter, he experiences a complete personality shift and emotional turmoil that makes him a changed person. Garundi gets married and starts afresh.
Balbir and Indira (Ekavali Khanna) make efforts to mend their relationship. Whether Balbir returns in the second season is a mystery in itself.
Kohrra season 2 plot
In the second season, Garundi has left Jagrana and the tragic case behind. He is now an Assistant Sub-Inspector at the Dalerpura Police Station, where he works under his new commanding officer, Dhanwant Kaur. While their approach is different, they share the same passion to dive deep into the case.
