Jana Nayagan Censor Certificate Controversy Explained: Breakdown of the Delay in Vijay’s Film Release
The controversy surrounding Jana Nayagan began when the makers submitted the film to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on December 18. During the screening, the CBFC committee reportedly objectecd to certain scenes and asked the filmmakers to remove a few portions. The makers agreed to these changes and complied with the CBFC’s requirements.
According to Narayana, on December 22 he received a communication from the Regional Office stating that the Examining Committee had recommended granting the film a U/A certificate. As stated in their court appeal, the producers claim that the delay occurred because the film continued to be reviewed and re-examined within the CBFC even after the suggested edits were implemented. After several days of delay, the film was reportedly referred to the Revising Committee on January 5, with the Regional Censor Office directing the producers to approach the Mumbai office. In response to the continued delay, KVN Productions filed a petition on January 6 seeking directions for the immediate issuance of the censor certificate. The producers said that the prolonged process was unnecessary and now threatened the film’s theatrical release, as distribution and screenings cannot proceed without certification.
